How 'Bout Dem 'Stros?

I am pretty sure Cory was wearing an Astros Jersey when I met him, probably paired with the bright orange Adidas shorts he wore religiously the first 8 years of our marriage.  As a matter of fact I know he was wearing an Astros jersey because it was personalized with his last name on the back and he corrected me for pronouncing it wrong. Ha!

The first gift I ever gave him was an Astros blanket.  We had only known each other a month and I still had so much to learn about him.  However, the one, sure-fire, thing I knew was that he loved the Houston Astros.  He still tells me that was the best gift I have given him.

The Astros are sometimes a hard team to love.  "How 'bout dem 'Stros?"  Well they've had more losing seasons than winning.  And more times than one Cory has gotten upset and swore he'd stop pulling for them.  Oh, but he has a special place in his heart for his 'Stros, and he can't help but be die-hard for them.  You see, his very first major-leage game was an Astros game and he hasn't been the same since.  It's no wonder he couldn't wait to share the experience with our kids.

The thing about first-time experiences is, they can never really be put into words. The bright lights, the acoustics of cheers sung out from a 40,000 seat stadium, the aroma of hot dogs, cotton candy and peanuts, the combination of fear and excitement every time a foul ball is hit to your section, the anticipation of seeing the train take off every time a player hits a home run....it's enough to send your senses into over-drive, but in a good way.

Now, we knew that Cooper senses weren't quite mature enough to handle all this awesomeness, but we happen to have a 4-year-old and a 6-year-old who would love it!  Everything seems even bigger and more magical when you are a kid, right?  It was certainly magical to watch!

Hope you enjoy the pictures :)

In Our Christmas Jammies

Thanks to the Holderness Family and their Christmas Jammies Parody.  I can' t just say the words "Christmas Jammies"  anymore.  I have to rap them, Will Smith style.  I have big plans for a video Christmas card of our own someday (if I can get the rest of my family members to play along), but for now I will consider this our digital Christmas Card (sorry if you were expecting one in the mail.) Extra Special thanks to my mom for making the "cute as a button" jammies!!

First, take a look at this little Love.  My middle child, who often gets overshadowed by the strong personalities of his big sister and little brother, but this child is such a gift.  He is gentle and kind,  his imagination is always running wild, and his quick wit is sometimes so surprising.  When I asked him yesterday what made him joyful, he said "Making other people laugh."  He does that often and we are so thankful for him.

"Taking pictures of your own kids is simple"....said no one ever. (sigh...)

But offer them cookies and hot chocolate and you have yourself a couple of happy customers.

The one disgruntled customer.... (we are so mean making him put on a shirt!)
....but walking on the wild side is what makes this little boy tick.  "Sure! Stand up on the hutch with all the Christmas China and reach into the cookie jar barely balancing on the edge."

This little Love is the one who challenges us constantly, because he lives life to it's fullest.  He is the one who totally commits to things.  When he is mad, he is MAD!  But when he happy, the joy runs all the way through his body and he can't help but dance.  He fights hard, but he loves harder.  We are so thankful for him.

And then I have this one hambone who eats. up. the. camera.  She is a total first born, bossy bones all through her body.  But, she is smart as a whip, a creative genius, and has such a heart for Jesus and serving others.  We hate that it seems she is growing up so fast, but we are excited to see how God's plans unfold in her life.  We are so thankful for her.

Sing it with me now.....

MAY YOUR DAYS BE MERRY AND BRIGHT
AND YOUR CHRISTMAS JAMMIES NOT TOO TIGHT!
( Well on my way to a parody, right?)

MERRY CHRISTMAS FROM OUR FAMILY TO YOURS!!
