Too Late?

So I sit here at 6:00 a.m. I am 38 weeks pregnant today, and I have an appointment in just a few short hours to determine if my baby boy is ready to enter the world this week. I have blogged about him several times. And since we found out he was a boy, 18 weeks ago, we have called him "Eli". We said his name would be "Elijah Matthew". Throughout those 18 weeks, Cory has had some second thoughts about that name. He just hasn't felt quite right calling him that. After the superbowl, he tried to convince me of the name "Drew". But that was an emotional thought, I'm sure. However, last night as he got out of the shower, (a place of deep thought) he said, "Let's name him Jackson Elijah instead, and call him Jack." Now, I have always loved the name Jackson and pushed for that name at the beginning of my pregnancy. And when we asked Landry to say "Jack", she said it perfectly, rather than calling her baby brother "eyebrow" (like a I talked about in this blog).

So I ask your opinion? Is it too late? We've prayed for him with the name "Eli". We've told everyone in the world his name is "Eli". We've written about him several times using the name "Eli". And we've told Landry that "Baby Eli" is in mommy's belly about 1000 times.

I need your comments!! And fast!

These are a few of my favorite things....

As we all know, kids go through SOOOO many phases. It sometimes seems like they change phases from week to week. But they are learning so many things each and everyday, how could we expect anything different. I find myself watching Landry grow up before my very eyes lately. When she turned 2, it was as if a switch flipped in her and she turned into a new person; one with so much spunk and charisma. Every stage of her life seems even more fun than the last. However, I don't want to forget any of the little things that make each phase so special. So I wanted to write about some of my favorite things that Landry does and says right now as a memorandum of sorts.

Here we go:

"Psych" - This is one of Landry's favorite sayings right now. My mom, of all people, taught it to her. She began playing a game with us a while back, where she would act like she was giving you something and then pull it away. So my mom took advantage of that and taught her to say "psych" when she did it. Now, she does it to me all the time. And she seriously takes me by surprise. She'll offer me a bite of something and when I open my mouth to receive it, she pulls it away and says "psych." She does it when I'm least expecting it. Very clever Landry!

Dress-up - I have posted some pictures of Landry in her dress-up clothes before, but I couldn't resist posting a few more. The great thing, is that she doesn't always need fancy dress-up clothes. She just pulls whatever she can find from her drawers and places it somewhere on her body. I attempt to take a picture of her each time she is wearing something new. However, it's getting difficult to keep up. Notice one thing, headwear is a must! Doesn't matter what it is, she must always have something on her head to top off her outfit.

"Here ya' go" - Isn't it so funny to hear our kids pick up on our slang terms. In the south, we tend to use the phrase "here ya' go" quite often. And Landry, as a true southern gal, has started using the phrase herself. The thing that makes it unique and cute is the way she pronounces it. She says "har go". Everytime I turn around, Landry is handing me something saying, "har go, Har go momma". I just love it!

Milking her boo boos - In the last couple of months, Landry has learned that kissing her boo boos makes them all better. So what does she do, milks it for all it's worth. Anytime she, so much as, bumps into something, she suddenly becomes the most pitiful thing you've ever seen, whimpers "ow" and then shows you where she needs to be kissed. It's especially funny when she throws a fit, hits something and then wants you to kiss her hand because she has hurt herself. And even better, Landry is learning empathy. When she thinks she has hurt us or we pretend that we are hurt, she wrinkles up her little face, whimpers for us, then kisses us where it hurts. It's just precious!

Singing - I almost forgot this one. How could I? Landry seems to be singing constantly these days. She goes around the whole house singing. She sings the whole time we are in the car. She sings when she is supposed to be taking a nap. It's pretty much non-stop, and I couldn't be happier. How wonderful it is to share a love of music with her! Some of her favorites include, the ABCs, Jesus Loves Me, and Where is Thumpkin? Here is a picture of her being a singing chef. Just more of her creativity coming out.
There are so many more interesting and fun things Landry is doing these days. But like the title says, these are a few of my favorite things!

No Greater Joy

I wrote about the name of our blog here. It is from the verse 3 John 4 which states:

"I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth."

While I know Landry does not have a true understanding yet of what it means to follow Christ, it is amazing to see her responding to the things we are teaching her about Christ. The Bible teaches that we should train our children in the way they should go. We are not guaranteed they will make all the right decisions their entire life, but they will know that Christ loves them and died for them. And as long as we are walking with Christ, our children will have an example to follow.

Some ways Cory and I are trying to train Landry are: doing daily devotions with her, praying several times a day with her, telling her what things are pleasing and displeasing to God, allowing her to see us read our Bibles, singing praise songs with her, apologizing when we have screwed up and done something displeasing to God.

When Cory and I pray with Landry, we pray aloud and we have Landry repeat after us. Imagine my excitement when I walked into Landry's room a couple of days ago and saw her praying by herself. She said "Thank you for GiGi, PawPaw, Nana and Poppy." It was definitely one of my proudest moments, evidence that God is working on her little heart and turning it towards Him! Thank you Jesus!

Here is Landry praying. I know she looks mad, but that's just her prayer face. She's always so serious when someone is praying.

A Precious Miracle

I wrote about my cousin, Shonda, and I being pregnant together here. Well, I am beyond excited to let everyone know that her precious little one has made it into the world.
Welcome Atticus Blaze
The name "Atticus" came from the book To Kill and Mockingbird. And "Blaze" is after her husband's grandfather, who passed away recently. What a special little boy!

Shonda and Tim, we are so happy for you! You have a beautiful family, and I know God has amazing plans for you guys!

A Glimpse of Spring

If you are tired of the frigid temperatures, say "aye". "AYE!" "AYE!" "AYE!" Now I really don't like to complain about the seasons, because it kind of annoys me when that seems to be the topic of everyone's conversations. And I know that just a few days after we complain about the cold, we'll be complaining about the heat. We can never seem to be content. But if I have to be honest, I am a little tired of the temperature not getting out of the 40's. Mainly because I'm running out of warm maternity clothes, and I haven't been able to take Landry out to play.

But this weekend, we got a sneak preview of Spring. The temperature made it into the 60's!!! So what do you suppose we did? The same thing our whole community did, apparently. We took her to the park. I have NEVER seen so many people there at one time. Everyone must have been just as stir-crazy as we were.

And, oh goodness, Landry was giddy when we pulled up. She just couldn't stop running around giggling. Seeing her happy made us melt. The little things bring such joy :)

Two Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Ok, so one of them is actually a big monkey.

Here are some moments I captured today of Daddy and Landry enjoying one of their favorite pastimes together....jumping on the bed.

Big Sister Cut

Landry was born with a head full of hair, which quickly developed into a baby mullet. We had to break down and cut her hair when she was 8 months old. Here is a blog we posted about her first haircut. After that, the mullet kept coming back so we had to cut it about 6 more times before it actually started growing evenly.

Since then we haven't touched it, but started to notice it was looking a little stringy. So we decided to take her to get a "big sister haircut" before Eli gets here. Not a drastic change, just a little clean-up.

You can see here, she was not too sure about what was happening to her. She was trying so hard to be strong, but that little lip poked out, (A trait she's had since seconds out of the womb) and her eyes began to tear up. Once she realized they were not going to hurt her, she was fine.
Here's the final product.
The lollipop at the end made it all worth it for her!
