Then we started Week 2....
After weeks 2 and 3, I find the war paint is a smeared and my head keeps bobbing because I am exhausted and dozing off. My Armor is dented and broken. And plans.....well.....they haven't worked out quite like I hoped.
But we survived.
By God's Grace, we survived.
And I think they still managed to learn a thing or two....by God's grace
Week 2
Monday: Labor Day! We didn't have school, but we did learn a little about Spain, through some delicious Spanish Food and Dancing
Tuesday: Today was the grand reveal of our Busy Boxes. I switch these boxes out each week. They are packed to the brim with activities for the kids to do when I need to them stay busy. "Cup Towers" was a huge hit!
And lastly, we read the book "The Way I Feel" Afterwards, I told the kids to show the various emotions using their faces and I snapped pictures of them. Funny kids.
Wednesday: We started our day with family worship. What a BLESSING to have this special time together!
Today I began Eli's preschool curriculum. We began with the number zero. I couldn't believe how excited he was to have a number of the week. He has told everyone and their mommas about his number.
Another thing we did today, was used the pictures I had taken of them on Tuesday to make a book inspired by "The Way I Feel". L and E took turns telling me why or when they felt the specific emotions.
The kids LOVED it! Especially since they could read it all by themselves :)
Thursday: We quickly worked on some phonics and math, and then we joined some friends for P.E.!!! These friends are a close knit group of cousins and I'm so thankful they have let us participate with them. We attempted to teach all the kids to play "Capture the Flag" and also did some strength and flexibility exercises. We are totally relying on "Coach Jena" to turn our kids into star athletes ;)
Friday: We had a tea party! We were still studying Western European Countries and today we were focusing in on England. We called one of L's friends to enjoy tea time as well. These little princesses enjoyed serving each other tea and "crumpets" and learning about Queen Elizabeth II
I also had L write in her journal telling me what she would do if she got to be queen for a day
Totally not homeschool related, but I am just too smitten not to include her. Meet Catherine! My best friend and her beautiful family welcomed this little doll on Friday and I had to show her off a bit
I mean, really. Don't you wish you could kiss those cheeks all day long!!
Now for week 3
Monday: CC and a little afternoon cuddling
Tuesday: We finally finished the map we had started the week before. I loved watching my children work together on this activity. They helped each other, using another map as a guide. They also sang the "7 Continents" and "4 Oceans" songs to help them remember where to place things on the map.
Wednesday: The munchkins suited up in their baker's gear to make COOKIES. It was 9/11 and I really didn't know how to explain that day to my kids since they are so young. But I did want to honor the day and do something special. I told the kids that on this day, there was a bad accident and many people were hurt and trapped. But firefighters from all over the country traveled to New York to help the people who were trapped and bring them back to safety. I explained how fire fighters risk their lives to help other people and how we need to show our appreciation to them. What better way for a 3 and 5 year old to show appreciation than with cards and cookies. After all, cookies is their love language.
We also went to the library where Coop stole the show
Thursday: Cooper enjoyed some oatmeal
And then we got to go to P.E. again! Today we did an obstacle course. The kids did great and really enjoyed it!
And science presented itself to us that afternoon! Two caterpillars were eating leaves outside L's window. Love when that happens!!
Friday: We strapped our chef hats back on and cooked ourselves some pancakes. I printed the recipe on a large card and had the kids help me read it. I set out all the different size measuring cups and spoons and had them choose the correct one for each ingredient. I also taught them what the symbols "T" "t" and ""C" mean in recipes.
Funny morning conversation:
Me: Who knows what this is called? (holding a spatula)
E: A "Spatu-ala"
L: Mom, I think I'm starting to lose my smarts
Me: No you're not. Why do you say that?
L: Well, when did Eli get so smart?
:)
Last, we played a rousing game of dice and Landry kept score using tally marks. This was our math reinforcement for the day
And on the 15th day, we rested.
