Family Night

Cory and I have always said that we will have a family night with our children; a night, each week, set apart where we turn off the computer and cell phones and do something special as a family.  We want these family nights to be fun and out of the ordinary, and we want each member of the family to take part in planning these family nights  We hope that it will be our children's favorite night of the week.
Up until now, we have not had a formal family night.  Right now, our children are so young, we tend to do everything together.  But since our lives are starting to get busier, we decided this week was a great time to get started.


So what did we do?


We made ice cream creations.  We got vanilla ice cream and lots of toppings.  We could make whatever we wanted with our ice cream.  Landry and Cory chose to make milkshakes.  I chose to top my ice cream with Butterfinger and Reddi Wip.  Here is a video of Cory and Landry making a milkshake:

We also watched a Dora movie.  Oh, the things we will do for our kids.

Lastly, we played ball together.  We wanted to find a way to get Eli involved, and I really think he enjoyed being able to play a game with us.

I'd say our first family night was a success!  I hope to make this a priority for our family.  I know we will get even busier as our family gets older and more involved with extra-curricular activities, but I pray that we see the importance of taking time out to spend time together.  I'd love any "family night" ideas you may have.  What are some things your family enjoys doing together? 

Eli's First Haircut

Like I mentioned in my last blog, Eli got his first haircut today.  We haven't been able to wait till the first birthday for either one of our kids.  You can read about Landry's first haircut here.  We've been talking about it for weeks now, but today we decided to take the plunge and do it.

He did wonderfully!  The stylist said he did better than most of the teenagers she cuts for.

Eli - 5 months old

Just like a precious friend said about her baby boy, a few days ago, "I haven't figured out a way to stop him from growing up yet."  Sadly, I think the second child grows up even faster than the first.  With that said, Eli turned 5 months old yesterday. UNREAL!  Wasn't I just giving birth to him last week? 


Here are Eli's newest milestones:


-He sits up, unsupported, very well
-He reaches for who he wants
-He eats baby food like a champ
-He's very interested in "big people" food
-He's becoming much more observant and wants to participate in the things we do
-He's starting to let you know, very quickly, when he's disagreeable with something
-He's already irritating his sister by grabbing her hair anytime it is within reach
-He's still melting hearts with his smile
-He's, pretty much, perfect


On the agenda for today.....his first haircut.  We've been noticing he looks like he's wearing a hairpiece on top of his head.  We're going to get him "cleaned up" a little.

A Weekend With Nana

Cory and I had an extremely busy weekend and were in need of lots of childcare.  Thank Goodness, Nana came to the rescue!  She and the kids all enjoyed spending some great time together.


On Saturday, we all took a trip to the South Shore and checked out the children's museum.  It was FANTASTIC!  Too bad we didn't have a little more time to spend there, but we enjoyed every moment we were there.  


So here is what we did:


Our first stop was lunch at the Louisiana Pizza Kitchen.  We didn't order pizza, but everything we got was very yummy!

At the museum....

Daddy tested his balance,

Landry found out what it feels like to look through fish eyes,

Both kiddos tried on some very hip glasses,

Landry had a ball playing in all the different houses,

Eli rode a horse and a boat, and had a ball doing it.

Eli also admired an authentic pair of Mr. Roger's shoes.

Landry and Nana blew bubbles,

and Landry and Mommy got inside a bubble

But Landry's very favorite part was grocery shopping at "Little Winn Dixie"

She was only supposed to get 4 items to check out.  As you can see, we failed.  Ha Ha!

We had a wonderful weekend!  Thanks Nana for coming to help!
