Summer Fun, Week 2

So, you know how I talked about flexibility in the Week 1 post.  We exercised LOTS of that this week.  You see, Daddy had to leave for a training on Sunday, so he pretty much got to be in charge of the calendar this week.  I knew he'd want to have as much fun as possible before he had to leave.  Still, we managed to do some of our regularly scheduled activities.

Our learning theme this week is rainbows. So here's the run down of our week:

Day 1 - Make it Monday - I let Landry browse my Pinterest recipes and she chose two....Fruit Kabobs and French Toasted Angel Food Cake.  Sounded scrumptious to me!  And it WAS!  The kids enjoyed choosing their own fruit and felt so big putting on the skewers all by themselves.  I even let them help me flip the angel food cake pieces on the griddle.   I am loving "Make It Monday"

 Then, we just laid around a bit.  After all, it is summer vacation :)  Look at my sweet boys!

Next we met a friend at the bookstore with her precious baby boy.  The babies were quite impressed with Eli's puppeteering skills!

While the boys were sleeping, Landry helped me make these water color paints.  We did them rainbow colors and pink, of course ;)

Day 2 - We went to the BEACH!!!  I'm not sure why it just dawned on us, but we live only an hour away from Gulfport.  While we would have loved to have taken a vacation and spent a week in Gulf Shores or Destin, it just didn't work out for us.  One day at the beach is better than no days, right?  That's what we thought!

  It took Lan about an hour to warm up to the water.  She was terrified of jellyfish.  She conquered her fear though, and by the end of our day, we were having to tell her "Too Far!"

Day 3 - We care Wednesday - We spent the morning at the splash park with some wonderful kids and wonderful mommies! We made these Super Rad rainbow cupcakes for our friends in our small group.  We painted water color rainbows with our Super Cool new water color paints.  I was in charge of the children at our small group.  So, what do you know, we talked about God's promises and made this Super Cute rainbow craft.

 And Cooper just looked on with delight.  Your time will come Coop.  Just a few more months...

Day 4 - This girl got registered for Kindergarten!!!  Also, the night before, she and her friends were scheming.  They were planning a playdate at our house.  So, on this morning, she immediately got to work making invitations for her friends. 

Daddy took his big kids on separate outings to have some one-on-one time with them.  At the end of the day, we blew up our air mattress in the middle of the living room and everyone piled on it to watch the Original Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.  Don't worry, we fast-forwared through the creepy parts. 

Day 5 - Fun Food and Family Night/Day - We went to a couple of our favorite hangouts, the Lake Front and the Shiver Shack.  Wish I would have gotten video of my kids sliding while they were wet.  It was hilarious watching them fly down the slide.  It had Cooper cracking up too!  For our fun food, we made these cheeseburger sliders.  They were simple and a big hit, since the kids had never had "baby cheeseburgers"

Day 6 - Happy Anniversary to US!!!  11 years!  We enjoyed a wonderful laid back day together :)

Day 7 - Cory drove up to church with us, and then we had to say our goodbyes.  We are already counting down the days till he comes back!  He hadn't been gone 30 minutes when Eli got his head stuck in a chair requiring the chair to be disassembled. Let the big head jokes begin....

A little lagniappe: Something else I am doing with my kids everyday (or on the days I actually think about it) are these "ABC" books.  Eli doesn't seem extremely interested in learning about letters, so I figured I'd try to teach him with things or characters he is interested in.

 M is for Mr. Incredible

Lan has an "ABC"book as well, but hers is to help her with her writing and spelling.  She has to come up with words that begin with the specific letter and try to write the word.  They are both doing great!

Whew, we survived the second week.  Let's see if we can live through week 3....
